Privacy policy

The short version

Kacey uses the information you provide to identify dishes, write recipes, plan meals, build grocery lists, and remember only the kitchen information the product needs. Kacey does not sell personal information, serve advertising, or track you across other companies' apps and websites.

Before Kacey sends personal information to OpenAI, the app identifies the provider and the categories of information involved and asks you to explicitly allow that use. You can decline or withdraw that permission.

Information Kacey collects

Account and identifiers

• Your email address and account or user identifier.
• Sign-in information supplied by Apple and, when offered, Google.
• A Sign in with Apple credential retained only so it can be revoked when you delete your account.

Subscription information

• If you subscribe to Kacey Pro: your subscription status, product, purchase and renewal dates, and store transaction identifiers, linked to your Kacey account identifier. Apple or Google processes the payment; Kacey never receives your card details.

Household and kitchen information

• Household settings such as servings, planning preferences, cooking time, budget, and available equipment.
• Dietary needs, allergies, excluded ingredients, and ways of eating such as halal or kosher.
• Your inferred shopping country and, if you choose to add it for local price research or a supported grocery handoff, a postal code. With your AI-sharing permission, Shopping automatically reuses cached local grocery estimates and sends your shopping postal code and ingredient names to OpenAI and its web search providers to fill missing or expired prices.

Content you provide and create

• Food photos you select. Kacey compresses and re-encodes them before upload and does not upload the original file.
• Typed or spoken food requests and your Chef conversation turns.
• Recipes, recipe changes, plans, grocery lists, cooking history, and preferences or Chef memories you choose to keep.
• If you set up nutrition tracking (Pro): sex, birth year, height, weight entries, activity level, life stage, goals and their starting and target weights, goal history and what you log as eaten, stored per person in your account.

Product usage and technical information

• Optional first-party product interactions, such as opening a grocery list, only after you enable usage analytics.
• A first-party service-configuration assignment that keeps an eligible presentation, ordering, or copy experiment consistent for your household, plus anonymous aggregate results derived from service records.
• App version, platform, internal request identifiers, processing status, and error information needed to operate and diagnose the service.
• If you turn notifications on: a push token for your device, its platform and app version, your device time zone, your notification settings, and a record of each notification Kacey decided to send or hold back and whether you opened it.
• Website request information that Vercel may process to deliver and secure these pages, such as IP address, browser details, and request logs.

Kacey does not read your contacts or collect precise location. This website does not currently use advertising cookies, behavioral analytics, or a contact form.

How information is used

• Provide account access and keep household data separated.
• Identify a dish, generate and validate recipes, answer bounded kitchen questions, create optional illustrations, and research local grocery prices.
• Build plans and grocery lists around your confirmed household settings.
• Remember recipes, cooking outcomes, and preferences you choose to keep.
• Operate, secure and debug Kacey; improve it through optional first-party product measurement only if you enable that measurement.
• Keep eligible presentation experiments consistent across devices and compare aggregate service outcomes without using optional interaction analytics.
• Comply with legal obligations and respond to valid requests.

Only information relevant to your choices

Account access needs an email address or a supported sign-in provider. Recipes and planning use the household settings and kitchen content you provide. Photos are optional: you can describe a dish instead. Do not include faces, identification documents or unrelated personal information. Only share another person's dietary information if you have authority to do so.

Allergy and dietary settings can reveal health or religious information. Provide only what you want Kacey to take into account. Omitting a constraint means Kacey cannot check it. These settings are separate from optional analytics and from permission to send information to OpenAI. Body measurements and what you log as eaten are health information: they are never included in analytics, and nutrition figures are estimates for your own record, not dietary or medical advice.

Optional analytics defaults off. If enabled, it uses your account identifier, app version, platform, session identifier, event names and a limited set of counts and categories. The client excludes message text, ingredient and recipe identifiers, and dietary details from event properties. Disabling analytics stops future collection on that device; it does not erase records previously collected.

Experiment assignment is separate from optional usage analytics. It is used only for presentation, ordering, or copy changes and aggregate operational measurement derived from records needed to provide Kacey. It does not change safety, dietary rules, privacy choices, AI controls, entitlements, prices, or security behavior, and experiment records add no message text, dietary values, or recipe content.

When information is shared

Kacey uses service providers only where they are needed to operate a feature:

• Supabase provides authentication, database, private file storage, and server-side functions.
• OpenAI processes the disclosed photos, requests, household context, and kitchen content only after you allow AI use in the app.
• Apple provides app distribution and optional Sign in with Apple.
• Google provides an optional sign-in method only when that method is included and configured.
• Instacart may receive grocery-list items and an optional postal code only if its grocery handoff is offered and you choose to use it. It is disabled in the initial release.
• RevenueCat verifies Kacey Pro purchases with Apple and Google. It receives your Kacey account identifier and the store's purchase records, not your recipes, dietary settings, or payment card.
• Expo relays push notifications to your device once you turn them on. It receives the device token, the notification title and text, and a route inside the app; it does not receive your recipes, plans, dietary settings, or an advertising identifier.
• Vercel hosts and secures this public website.

Kacey does not sell your information or share it for third-party behavioral advertising. Information may also be disclosed when required by law, to protect rights and safety, or as part of a corporate transaction subject to appropriate safeguards.

AI processing and your choice

Before the first AI-backed request on a device, Kacey explains that OpenAI may receive selected photos; what you type or say; dietary needs and allergies; household settings; and relevant recipes, plans, and conversation context. The request continues only after you choose Allow and continue.

Choosing Not now cancels that AI request. You can later withdraw permission under You → Your data. Kacey states in the disclosure that OpenAI's API data is not used to train its models by default and may be retained for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring, subject to the provider's applicable data controls.

Service providers and international processing

Our providers may process information outside your country, including in the United States. Applicable protections and government-access rules may differ. Contact us for information about the hosting regions and safeguards applicable to your account.

We use providers for the purposes described here and must maintain appropriate contractual safeguards. A provider's own retention and security obligations may continue after information is removed from Kacey. This policy does not promise that all provider logs or backups are deleted immediately.

Retention

• Recipes, plans, grocery activity, household settings, and saved memories remain until you remove them or delete the account.
• Chef conversation transcripts are removed 30 days after a conversation session closes.
• Failed or abandoned uploads are removed after 24 hours.
• Successfully completed operational job records are removed after 30 days.
• Unresolved operational failures are retained until they are resolved so an unfinished deletion or cleanup cannot be silently forgotten.
• Kacey Pro access records are removed when you delete your account; store event identifiers kept only to avoid processing a purchase twice are no longer linked to you. Apple, Google, and RevenueCat keep their own purchase records under their tax, fraud-prevention, and legal obligations, and deleting the account does not cancel a store subscription.
• Account-linked analytics remain until account deletion unless removed earlier. Turning analytics off does not delete past events.
• Account-linked experiment assignments are removed when you delete your account, or 90 days after an experiment is completed or cancelled. Anonymous aggregate results and the staff audit history remain.

Service providers may retain limited records under their own security, fraud-prevention, backup, and legal obligations. Kacey limits provider use to the purposes described in this policy.

Your choices and controls

• Withdraw OpenAI permission under You → Your data.
• Choose whether to enable optional usage analytics under You → Your data, and turn it off at any time.
• Turn each kind of notification off or set quiet hours under You → Notifications; signing out removes the device token, and your phone's system setting stops delivery entirely.
• Delete individual photos and kitchen content where the app provides that control.
• Correct household settings, recipes, plans, and grocery information in the app.
• Delete your account and associated personal information from inside Kacey.

Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to request access, correction, portability, restriction, objection, or deletion. Contact us to make a privacy request. We may need to verify that the account is yours.

Security

Kacey uses private storage, row-level database authorization, encrypted network connections, passwordless or provider-based sign-in, and server-side secrets. No security method is perfect, but privileged OpenAI and service credentials are not placed in the mobile application.

Children

Kacey is not directed to children and is not submitted to the App Store Kids category. If you believe a child has provided personal information without appropriate authorization, contact us so we can investigate and remove it where required.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Kacey changes. The date at the top identifies the current version. If a change materially affects how information is used, we will provide appropriate notice and request new permission where required.
